What is a RespOrg?
In the North American Numbering Plan, a RespOrg (a contraction for a Responsible Organization) is a company that maintains the registration for toll-free telephone numbers in the Somos SMS/800 database.
The Somos SMS/800 function in North American toll-free voice telephony is analogous to that of an individual registrar in the Internet's Domain Name System.
RespOrgs were established in 1993 as part of a Federal Communications Commission order instituting toll-free number portability. A RespOrg can be a long-distance company, reseller, or end user that directly controls its own toll-free numbers.
What is the overall toll-free number usage?
The toll-free industry in North America – which includes the United States, Canada, and some Caribbean countries – has a limited supply of toll-free numbers (TFNs). There are currently six open Numbering Plan Areas (NPAs): 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, and 844, resulting in a total of 47,770,094 TFNs available.
According to a 2015 report by Somos entitled, “Forecasting Utilization of Toll-free Numbers,” there are more than 40 million TFNs in use right now and the total number of currently available TFNs is forecasted to be exhausted, most likely, by Q1 2018. We expect a new toll-free number code, 833, will be made available in Spring 2017.
Why should I text-enable my toll-free numbers?
Based on a study conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of OneReach, 64 percent of consumers with texting capabilities would prefer to use texting over voice as a customer service channel. This trend underscores the importance of adding text-enabling for toll-free numbers to complement existing voice services as a way of providing better customer service and support.

What does 8MS stand for?
CSF’s flagship software-as-a-service solution is 8MS Cloud. The name 8MS was originally created as acronym for “8XX Management System.” Today, we simply call the platform 8MS or 8MS Cloud.

CSF licenses 8MS Cloud on a monthly subscription basis. 8MS Cloud offers provisioning and basic routing as a core service. Add-on SaaS services include voice carrier provisioning, texting, and LCR.

There are two types of service plan types available for licensing the Core 8MS Cloud solution:
- Transaction Service Plans – ideal for clients who want to store most or all of their toll-free numbers on 8MS Cloud and generate a moderate quantity of 8MS Cloud GUI transactions per month.
- Number Level Service Plans – available to customers who require a higher quantity of 8MS Cloud GUI transactions per month.
What is CSF’s No Risk/Shared Reward LCR Program?
CSF offers a multi-year least-cost routing (LCR) program that helps reduce toll-free carrier costs.
Using our 8MS Cloud LCRGen cloud service, we implement toll-free routing plans that use your actual toll-free CDRs, rate decks, and carrier bills as the basis for the LCR cost optimization.
As part of the program, we provide all software, consulting services, and implementation services free of charge.
